Events and Marketing Coordinator

This position is aimed at supporting the Jack Black brand in Johannesburg.

The purpose of this role is to be an extension of the JHB based team. The role will require a ‘roll-up your sleeves and get stuck in’ approach, bringing Jack Black products to consumers through events, collaborations, activations, and networking. At all times, this position will require solid brand and product knowledge and a special kind of personality with an unwavering high level of service.

This position works closely with Marketing and Sales Ambassadors and reports directly to the Brand & Trade Relationship Manager and indirectly the Brand Marketing Manager. It requires strong organisational skills, self-drive, awesome communication skills and most importantly the ability to portray the Jack Black vibe and culture.

Essential Duties & Function

  • The role requires the technical ability to manage, deliver, set up and operate various draught mobile units for events and activations.
  • Festival, event and tasting activation support (on and off con) and management.
  • Finding and managing an activation team to assist at events and beer sampling.
  • Assistance with event equipment, staff, and Land Rover setup for brand ambassador related events.
  • Ensuring event equipment is clean and in working condition, communicating if there are any issues well in advance. Managing stock and doing stock take on a regular basis. Working on spread sheets to know where the infrastructure items are.
  • Post-event reporting will be required within 24 hours of an event.
  • Managing all the free of charge stock, float, card machine, equipment for events, influencer and seeding drops, community ambassadors & friends of the brand deliveries.
  • Event insight feedback, including event, festival and activation research and opportunities.
  • Working closely with The Bread (our ad agency) and forming a great relationship with them. Here you will need to collect & deliver stock and coolers, work at and represent JB at events, build relationships with new leads and help with seeding drops to friends of the brand.
  • All the above will require meticulous planning & execution, with good brand knowledge and storytelling.

Marketing Support

  • The role requires fast and efficient marketing support which varies from local sourcing of items, printing and packing of orders, deliveries etc.
  • Attendance at weekly meetings where the brand plans and track progress of various tasks.
  • Management of JHB warehouse stock, including monthly stock reports, feedback on stock levels and transfers.
  • Management of event stock and equipment, ensuring sign out procedures are adhered to, and stock is ordered when necessary. Ensuring all mobile bar equipment is clean and in good working order.
  • Ad hoc tasks to support the Marketing Team will also be required, including hands-on tasks as well as some administration tasks (training will be provided).
  • Having knowledge of where the product is pouring and stocked in all areas to advise consumers on where they can purchase our products.

  • Strong understanding of Craft Beer is preferred, being passionate about Jack Black and the beer business.
  • Technically orientated with multiple draught systems.
  • Work independently with a sense of purpose, highly goal orientated.

  • Loves working with other people, presents a positive outlook.
  • High energy and enjoys being out (not for someone who prefers desk work).

  • Having your own car that can be used to move stock and equipment is preferable.
  • Willing and able to travel for work over multiple days.

Key Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Jack Black Brand & Trade Relationship Manager, with a dotted line to the Brand Marketing Manager.
  • Will have frequent interaction with CT-based marketing team.
  • Will build numerous relationships with event owners and activation managers.

Physical Requirements

  • Local travel approximately 70% of the time.
  • Unusual/Weekend hours: May be required to work long or unpredictable hours. Work revolves around objectives, projects, and priorities, not hours. Must be available nights & weekends. Physical: Required to lift 13kg cases and 30kg kegs, as well as various point-of-sales boxes and event equipment on a periodic basis.
  • Driver’s license (with acceptable insurance record), reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to use a computer with basic Word, Power Point and Excel skills.
