We’re incredibly honoured and proud to share that Jack Black Brewing Co. was awarded a Gold and three Silvers at the 2025 South African National Beer Trophy Awards (SANBT). These awards not only celebrate the beers you know and love, but they also highlight the continuous growth, commitment, and craft behind every Jack Black brew.
The brewing team pours so much passion, hard work, and dedication into every brew - and it’s incredible to see that effort recognised at the highest level. We sat down with the Jack Black brewing team to chat about the awards, the journey, and what it all means for the future.
Which of the Jack Black beers won awards at SANBT this year?
CPA – Gold Medal
Atlantic Weiss – Silver Medal
Brewers Lager – Silver Medal
Wolves of Winter – Silver Medal
What does winning at the SANBT mean to your team?
It fills us with pride. It’s recognition of the immense effort and passion we pour into every brew, and it’s meaningful to receive that validation.
Was this award something you specifically aimed for, or was it a pleasant surprise?
Validation for CPA was a great win as it’s one we are very proud of and a style of beer that we created especially when we’re judged against very specific beers. We are here to brew quality beers so we never say it’s a surprise to win an award.
Were there any particular challenges during brewing?
We are always identifying areas in which we can improve processes. So in effect, challenges come all the time but these challenges create opportunities and inspire us further.
How has this win impacted your team - internally and in terms of strategy for future brewing?
It’s given the team a real boost in morale and renewed energy. The win motivates us to keep pushing for the next great brew - and the next recognition. The judges’ feedback is often brutally honest, but we value it deeply. It guides us in refining our processes and elevating the quality of every beer we make.
What message do you want to send to your consumers?
We remain committed to quality as we have always done so. We will continue to love the process, be sticklers for quality and make sure that they get the very best beer possible.
What did you learn from this year - either about your beer, your team, or your brewery?
One of the biggest takeaways this year is just how essential teamwork is to brewing quality beer. Communication, timing, commitment, and alignment all play a massive role - especially when brewers work shifts and aren’t always on the floor together.
How does the awards recognition validate Jack Black’s values and mission?
The awards strongly affirm the values that guide our brewing team.
Our mission is rooted in a deep love for brewing - and a commitment to creating beers that truly inspire us.
Through a constant pursuit of understanding and refinement, we build a closer relationship with our ingredients, our process, and our brewery. With quality and innovation at our core, we’re driven to leave a legacy brewing the best beers in the country.
Can you talk us through the beers that won awards this year, not just at SANBT?
We also celebrated wins at the African Beer Cup this year - an international competition that brings together top beers from across the continent.
The SANBT, being a trophy-style competition with fewer awards handed out this year, makes the recognition even more significant and speaks to the quality of the beers that did place.
There’s a lot we’re proud of. CPA led the way with both a Gold and a Silver. Atlantic Weiss followed with a Silver and a Bronze. Butcher Block and Wolves of Winter each earned a Silver, while Brewer’s Lager continues to show incredible consistency, picking up a Silver shortly after taking home Gold. It’s been an exciting year - and a strong reflection of the passion and precision behind each of these brews.

Our beer keeps getting better - and these awards are a testament to the innovation, teamwork, and dedication behind every brew.
